Old Promo Card

I was rummaging through some buried envelopes in my studio when I came across an old promo card. They were handmade standups and I think 100 of them were sent to various Art Directors. I just can't understand why it never brought me any business :)!!

Richard Roundtree

I attempted a speed paint of the original Shaft (about a half hour). I might work on it a bit more and repost.

* Worked about another 30 minutes on it and reposted.

"Rejects" Arrived

Today my copy of Joe Bluhm's new book entitled "Rejects - the extreme art of retail caricature" arrived in my mailbox. This is a must have for anyone who loves caricature...every page a gem!!
Although a majority of these drawings were rejected by their subjects (absolutely not a clue what they were walking away from) they are the finest examples of the best retail caricaturist working in the world today.

...yes today was a good day.

The Pearce Sisters

The Pearce Sisters is a film from Aardman Animations directed by Luis Cook. The two short teaser clips (which I've combined) are stylish and very well done...I'm interested in seeing where the story line goes though. Aardman supplies a brief description of the film on it's site as well..."An amusingly bleak hearted tale of two weather lashed old spinsters. Lol and Edna Pearce live on a remote and austere strip of coast. They scrape out a miserable existence from the sea. The pearce sisters is a tale of love, loneliness, guts, gore, nudity, violence, smoking and cups of tea."
Well if anything it definitely has great character design!!!

* Unfortunately the video I had included with the post was pulled by Aardman from youTube due to copyright infringement...I guess I need to include my apologies since I only wanted to bring attention to what I thought was a terrific animated piece.

Wild Bill

I did this quick digital caricature of Wild Bill Hickok for the "Old West" theme on SFG. I actually had a chance to try out the antique effect article in issue 32 of Advanced Photoshop.
